A canyon is a deep, narrow passage cut through the surface of the Earth with steep cliffs on both sides(“Canyon”).The Grand Canyon in Arizona is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and 6,093 feet deep! (Wikipedia contributors)😮🤯 Falling from a cliff in a place with such depth is essentially a death sentence! However, before wonders of the Earth such as the Grand Canyon were discovered, a GREAT fall ocurred. The greatest and most detrimental fall, to me, would have to be Satan´s fall from heaven. Once called Lucifer meaning ¨star of the morning¨, he was the guardian cherub...beautiful...wise and well...Perfect! (just as ALL of God´s creation at that time). However, his sin led to his great fall noo his CRASH LANDING from heaven to Earth. Now back to Satan´s story. We already established that he was perfect. So what led to his downfall? HIS PRIDE!! Who would ever think something as ¨little¨as pride could lead to the downfall of Satan and in turn, humanity? Well, it turns out pride and almost every sin can have MASSIVE consequences.
Lucifer was held at highest regard of all angels and was right under Jesus. But When God said to His Son, “Let us make man in our image,” Satan was jealous of Jesus. He wished to be consulted concerning the formation of man, and because he was not, he was filled with envy, jealousy, and hatred. He desired to receive the highest honors in heaven next to God (EW 145.1) Satan exalted himself above Jesus in his own eyes and,as we know about those who exalt themselves, he was abased. Lucifer was not satisfied with worshipping God; instead, he wanted to be worshipped. Once a beautiful, powerful angel of God, he lost his former, exalted position in Heaven. “How you are fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit” (Isaiah 14:12–15). Lucifer (“star of the morning”) became Satan (“accuser”) when he fell to the earth. Jesus, speaking of this event, said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from Heaven” (Luke 10:18). (“The Origin and Fall of the Devil”) At the lowest point in his life, Lucifer was determined he wouldn´t fall alone. So he went around spreading rumours and false accusations about God.He was a source of propoganda in God´s holy space. That´s another sin! Not only was Lucifer bearing false witness but he did it against GOD! His pride led him to a spiral of sinful nature; finding and indulging in more ways to sin. Unfortunately, maybe because they did not understand the consequences of sin, Satan was able to convince 1/3 of the angels in heaven to turn against God. Sooner than later (of course) they were kicked out of heaven and Satan and all he was able to influence had their crash landing to Earth. Satan is still on Earth trying to get us all to join his army but let us not fall prey to his traps. So what is the lesson in all of this? We should not be consumed by pride and try to conquer it on our own. Just like Lucifer turned Satan´s pride causes the following things in our lives: 1. We develop an exaggerated sense of importance. 2. We lose focus from God and instead focus onourselves. 3. We influence those close to us to do wrong which also separates people by making them believe that if they hang out with us that they too are more important than ¨commoners¨. 4. In order to protect His people and teach you a lesson: God has to throw us off our high chair and we fall into the reality that God is to be exalted, He is above all man and we must humbke ourselves before Him.
