Have you ever felt demotivated when it comes on to praying because you think you aren't praying the correct way or your prayer isn't long enough so God will not hear you? I have experienced that same feeling too, and it was because I was making prayer too hard. I later learned that God doesn't hear my prayers based on my perfect choice of words or how lengthy my prayer is (not saying that praying for long periods is wrong). For this long time, I only prayed when I had a request or was in immediate need of rescuing from danger and crisis when prayer is simply communicating with God. Often time we think prayer is just talking, but prayer includes staying quiet and listening as well. Psalm 46:10 tells us, Sometimes, all we need is to sit still in the presence of the Lord and allow him to refresh us. Being still also enables us to reflect on the goodness of God, his power, grace, and faithfulness towards us. Gal. 5:17 says, "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would." Being consistent in prayer can be very difficult because it is more of a spiritual act rather than a physical one. Prayer doesn't appeal to our minds and senses; our bodies and mind may not enjoy praying and may even rebel against praying. As such, you have to be deliberate with prayer. Acts 6:4 says, "But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and the ministry of the word." This is something most Christians struggle to do. The harsh truth is, many Christians are discipline enough to attend classes and go to work because this is what helps to maintain them physically, but aren't willing to make the sacrifice of getting out of their comfort zones to discipline their flesh so that they can be consistent in prayer, which will fill their spirit and enable a closer relationship with our creator. God has blessed us with this great opportunity so that we can freely enter into his presence and, persons are neglecting it. If that person is you, I implore you to run to the throne of God and pray without ceasing as 1 Thessalonians 5:17 encourages. It is time to make a new commitment to your prayer life. One way to stay consistent in prayer is by setting a prayer schedule. Be disciplined in following through amidst all odds. Please remember what Romans 8:12-13 (ESV)says; "So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." Prayer is a necessity for survival and the maintenance of daily victory so, please remain consistent. God bless you.
